Hidden Rooms and Secret Doors

Sometimes one click leads to another, then another, then another and before you know it, there you are, falling deeper down a rabbit hole of pictures and stories about homes with hidden rooms and secret doors.

Bookcase Doors?

When researching some door styles for another project we are working on, I unintentionally stumbled into a link for a company that manufactures “Bookcase Doors” and needless to say it sparked enough interest for me to give it a click. After spending some time sorting through the variety of doors that they can install into my future fantasy home it was impossible for me not to want to take a look at some homes that already have secret doors and rooms in their layout.

What’s Down Here?

Much like Alice in Alice in Wonderland it didn’t take long for my curiosity to lead me to click on a variety of articles showing me the limitless types of hidden rooms you could have in your home and some interesting reasons why you’d have one.

Modern versions of these rooms or doorways can function as a creative way to add storage or private parking, perhaps a place to hide from potential intruders or to stash items you want hidden, possibly a little hidden getaway for movies or to show off your eclectic stash of beverages or maybe, just maybe because you had a similar childhood dream to one day have a secret room in your home.

Definitely worth a click for those of you that want to spend some time looking at some very interesting homes and unique buildings!

To Be A Kid Again

This picture is of a small secret (or not so secret) room we created for a local family and their children. When I was sorting through most of the articles about secret rooms that I fell into, I learned that most were created for the children of the home. A place for them to be playful, imaginative and seemingly in their own smaller world. When thinking back about the times that I wanted to have a secret room as a kid, it couldn’t be more true. At that time, I was small and the world was big, really big. It was important to find spots in the house that felt more to my size. It was fun to create spaces in the house or out in the backyard that were more to my size. There were forts and tents made everywhere, they were custom made to be as close to what I or my brothers dreamed them to be. Now imagine taking all of that and putting it into a room, in the house, made specifically for you and on top of that PUTTING IT BEHIND A SECRET DOOR!

Dreams Can Become Reality

It is fun to dream of things like this as a child and even more fun to do as an adult because it could actually become a reality. If you’re like me and still want a secret room with a secret entrance (for the kids… or for yourself) give this article a read, “10 Incredible Hidden Rooms” on FamilyHanyman.comIt will give you some ideas of what you could possibly do to add some hidden spots in your existing home or in a home you are planning to build.
